There has been an unprecedented surge in demand for home furnishings since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. At Modsy, and in the interior design industry at large, we are experiencing significant delays in shipping and delivery timelines for furniture and home decor.
We know this is frustrating and far from the delightfully easy experience we hope to provide for you. In an effort to be fully transparent, we are sharing a detailed overview about what is causing these industry-wide delays and what we at Modsy are doing to address them.
Why are these delays happening?
There are a number of factors contributing to these delays, including lockdowns and social distancing measures put in place to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. These restrictions have affected many of the factories that manufacture home goods, disrupting the normal flow of products. The pandemic has also resulted in an increased demand for furniture and decor, causing severe bottlenecks in the world's most popular shipping lanes. This, in turn, has caused congestion at domestic ports where a growing backlog of shipments are waiting to be unloaded, delaying all sorts of goods coming into the US, including many of the items we sell at Modsy.
And, most recently, upholstered furniture (such as sofas, sectionals, and chairs) has taken an extra hit due to a national shortage in foam. This is because the largest foam manufacturing facility in the country is located in Texas, which was severely impacted by the extreme storms in February. Factories were damaged and forced to shut down, causing a shortage in this high-demand material.
How does this impact my order?
We’ve updated the lead times for all affected items to accurately reflect these delays. For new orders, it may be up to 25 weeks until items will be ready to ship. For orders placed prior to mid-March, we expect to see a delay of 4-6 weeks.
Based on current information, the national foam shortage is causing additional delays across the industry for upholstered furniture. This includes Modsy’s brand, Ravine Home.
What are we doing to address this?
While your furniture is slowly but surely making its way to you, we want to assure you that our team is working hard to address these challenges. Our top priority is to help you create a home you love, especially during this time when home could not be more important.
- While delivery timelines are uncertain or changing rapidly, we are working closely with our retail and manufacturing partners to provide you the most accurate and up-to-date delivery timelines for your orders.
- We are fast-tracking adding 1000s of new items that are in-stock and ready to ship to our digital catalog. If you are in need of furniture ASAP please let your designer know, and they will prioritize available items with shorter delivery times in your design.
